This event is brought to you by Steve and Deanna Krueger, just for the fun of it!

The first Moose fest was held in the first weekend of May, 2010 in Montello, WI. The event was timed with the opening of the fishing season because the festival was formed around the largest syndicated fishing comic strip Moose Lake. Moose Fest was organized and ran by the cartoon's founder Steve Krueger, who wanted the festivities to not only promote the outdoors but also benefit a struggling community.

The first Moose Fest was officially recognized by Wisconsin Governor James Doyle by way of a state proclamation declaring Moose Fest weekend the first weekend of May, 2010. The proclamation itself commended the event for showcasing the area of Montello to visitors and for helping to boost a floundering economy.

Moose Fest debuted with warm weather and high winds which followed a severe thunderstorm the previous night which also produced a tornado not far from the city. Over the two days, Moose Fest drew approximately 5,000 people to the sleepy city of Montello, however, the festival layout proved to be a bit of a deterrent for some to walk the distances needed to enjoy the entire event.

After the event, some local residents determined that they could organize a similar event on their own and proceeded to discourage Moose Fest's return. Moose Fest was such a hit in the area that the locals started to organize an event that was a mirror image of Moose Fest and tried to incorporate all aspects that made the event a hit. The locals even tried to name their event Moose Fest, which was quickly squashed and they ended up naming the "new" event Montello Fish n Fun Fest and proceeded to hold the event on the first weekend of May each year since.

Moose Fest turned to organizer Steve Krueger's home city of Menasha and there it has remained. Sticking to the original core principals of having a family friendly event that everyone in the family can enjoy!

Moose Fest has been moved to the end of August which supplies a more stable weather conditions and avoids the hazardous climate that comes with spring.
